Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

Commentary

Collated (March 2020). Fragment from the right column of a thick tablet (max preserved thickness 35 mm), one side is heavily burned. Fine-grained clay, now red in color.

The fragment lists in the first preserved paragraph temple paraphernalia, including a shield, musical instruments, and the accoutrements of Pi[rwa]; the second paragraph preserves mentions of cult offerings within a festival description, with Pirwa appearing on line 12′. In no way the fragment can be considered a likely parallel of IBoT 2.131 (contra Imparati 1990: 166 fn. 2).

Palaeography and orthography: Script size ca. 4 mm. The variant of PAL used in line 3′ (correctly represented in the copy) is not booked under HZL no. 4.

3′-4′: On the galgalturi, a kind of cymbal or rattle, see de Martino 1995: 486 with literature.

9′: This word is perhaps related to the lion-men, see Weeden 2011: 287 fn. 1328.
